Indoor Air Quality

Reasons for Improving Your Indoor Air Quality

    • The EPA has ranked indoor air pollution as a high-priority public risk.

    • According to the EPA, levels of indoor pollutants can be 2 to 5 times higher than outside.

    • Most of us spend about 90% of our adult lives indoors.

    • 99% of the particles in the air are smaller than 1 micron (1 millionth of a meter). Because they are so small, they remain airborne.

    • Household dust is present even in clean homes, and can be composed of mold spores, bacteria, viruses, animal dander, human skin particles, fabric fibers, dust mites, parts of cockroaches, food particles, and other debris.

    • Inexpensive filters found at local hardware stores are only about 10% efficient for the largest particles.

    • Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) affects more than 35 million people in the U.S.

    • Fifty million people in the U.S. suffer from allergies.

    • Allergic disease is the fifth leading cause of chronic disease among all ages and third common chronic disease among children under 18.

    • 54% of U.S. citizens test positive for one or more allergens.

    • There are approximately 20 million asthma sufferers in the U.S., 6 million of them are children. It's the leading chronic illness in children.

    • The average human inhales about 2,300 gallons of air per day.

We Offer the Following Products to Optimize Your Indoor Air Quality

Residential Air Duct Cleaning Procedures

Air duct cleaning is not an annual service. We suggest that individuals without allergies have their air ducts cleaned every 7 to 10 years. We also suggest that individuals with allergies or respiratory ailments have their air ducts cleaned every 3 to 5 years. Air duct cleaning is just one step in achieving quality indoor air. People should also be aware that humidifiers and high efficiency air filters are also necessary to achieve a comfortable breathing environment.

    • We attach an 8 inch vacuum line onto your main supply and return ducts. The vacuum source pulls 6,500 CFM’s (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air through your ducts.

    • Using 175 pounds per square inch of air pressure, we will access your ductwork wit hour air whips

    • The process of source removal always starts on supply side of the system at the furthest point, and ends at the closest point to our vacuum source. First we clean your registers, then your runs, and then your main ducts. Once the supply side is finished, we repeat the exact same procedure on the return side of your system.

    • After the ducts, we clean your supply and return plenums. Then we clean the blower motor and blower compartment, once again using our pneumatic tools. At this point the source removal has been completed.

    • Upon the customers request, we will disinfect the system with Envirocon, a chlorine based disinfectant. There is no additional charge for this service.

    • All access areas are sealed with specially designed gasketed one-inch plugs. Both vacuum areas are sealed with sheet metal, zip screws, and metal duct tape.

Humidifiers

Core Benefits — Every Aprilaire product provides these important key benefits for your family and home.

Health — An Aprilaire Whole-House Humidifier can reduce the chance of upper respiratory problems. “Humidity reduces the incidence of respiratory infections and speeds recovery from the common cold.”—William J. Hitschler, MD, Archives of Otolaryngology.

Comfort — When the air in your home becomes too dry, your body is robbed of precious moisture, leaving you and your family with dry, itchy skin, and dry nose and throat symptoms. An Aprilaire Whole-House Humidifier can help alleviate all of these uncomfortable symptoms and more.

Humidifier

Protection — Dry air pulls moisture from walls and hardwood floors which leads to damaging, unsightly cracks. Valuable furniture, artwork and electronics are also subject to the adverse effects of dry air. An Aprilaire Whole-House Humidifier can help protect your home and its contents by supplying the correct amount of moisture to your home’s air.

Energy Savings — Most homeowners turn up the thermostat because they feel cold. An Aprilaire Whole-House Humidifier allows you to feel warmer at lower thermostat settings, saving up to 4% on your heating bill for every degree you lower your thermostat, according to the EPA.

Why Do I Need a Whole-House Dehumidifier?
Have you ever experienced any of the following uncomfortable and/or unhealthy conditions:

    • Do you have trouble sleeping at night due to clammy skin or stuffiness in the air?

    • Have you ever reduced the temperature setting because you're uncomfortable with the stuffy feeling?

    • Have your floors or other surfaces ever felt sticky or “sweaty”

    • Are you concerned with mold and mildew growth in your home?

    • Do you have musty odors or smells in any area of your home?

    • Do you have condensation on your water pipes?

    • Have you seen wet stains on walls or ceilings?

    • Do you or a family member have allergies (over-moist air can encourage the growth of mold, bacteria, and dust mites—three commonly known household allergens).

Experiencing any of the above conditions can make sleeping and even daily activities miserable — plus some conditions can be hazardous to your family’s health or your home’s furnishings.

Air Cleaners

How Does It Work? Aprilaire Whole-House Air Cleaners are installed as part of your home’s central heating and cooling system — completely out of your way and out-of-sight. That means each and every time your system runs, the air in your home is filtered through our state-of-the-art filter media removing potentially harmful contaminants from every room of your home. The resulting clean air is then distributed via your heating and cooling system’s ductwork to your entire home. Best yet, the system is easy to maintain with infrequent maintenance only required every 1-2 years unlike portable units that require monthly care or standard filters that need cleaning every 1-3 months.

Ultraviolet Germicidal Lighting

Ultraviolet light has been used successfully for many years a specialization agent in medical and food processing applications. Now, Carrier has adopted this technology for use in home comfort systems. The UV light is reliable, non-toxic and safe - similar to lights used in tanning beds - and it has been designed for use in new or existing systems. Once activated, the ultraviolet light goes to work right away, cleaning the indoor coil and the air that passes through the system. The Carrier UV Light requires little maintenance. Just replace the lamp once a year and enjoy enhance indoor air quality.

UV Light

The Carrier UV Light uses short wave UV-C ultraviolet light to kill bacteria, mold, viruses and other micro-organisms on and around the indoor coil. The UV Light prevents the growth of fungus on and around the coil by destroying the DNA of the fungus to kill or deactivate it. The Carrier UV light is much more effective at coil cleaning than conventional methods which use steam or chemicals that often leave material embedded in the coil. The UV light is available in double lamps or single lamp models. UltraVIolet air treatment systems are also offered by EcoQuest.
